Mewって複数のメイルから引用できるので、C-c C-yで引用した
previousでないmailのmessage-IDもreferences: に入れた方が
いいんではないでしょうか。もちろん、手動でできますが...
そのことも含めて1つでよいという合意に達したんでしょうか。

スレッドの定義にかかわってくるとおもいますが
複数のメイルを引用したメイルが存在するならば
それらの関係はtreeではなくてDAG(directed acyclic graph)になりますよね。
＃テキストベースでDAGを表示するうまい方法ってあるんですかね?

RFC2076 "Common Internet Message Headers" というのを見てみたんですが
特にthreadについて書いてありませんでした。
ただreferences: については、メイルとニューズで扱いを変える必要がありそうです。
