[Mew-dist 08560] Problem with multipart and iso-8859-1 coverpage

Hi!
When I upgraded to the release version of mew 1.93 (due to upgrade to
Debian 2.1), I discovered that the coverpage in multipart messages
can't manage 8 bit characters any more.
Specificly, all characters with the MSB set are converted to ESC
followed by the character with the MSB cleared. åäö are converted to
NeNdNv.
This seem to occur before the characterset detecting is done,
resulting in the coverpage marked as us-ascii. This ONLY happens to
the coverpage in multipart messages. Singlepart as well as the other
parts in a multipart work well. It doesn't help to specify iso-8859-1.
The bug still exists in 1.94b21, but not in 1.93b6 and earlier,
including 0.xx (yes, I've used mew since 94). So it seem to have
appeared in 1.93 after b6.
Is this a known problem? Work-around? (It's a real show-stopper for
me, mew 1.93 and newer become unusable...)
I run emacs 20.3, without mule, in a Debian x86 2.1 Linux environment.
/ Anders
