何のために作られたかは詳しく知りませんが、「header だけでなく envelope 
information も保護したい時にも使えるよ」と作者の一人（Ned Freed）に
いわれました。使用目的に関しては、Abstract に "variety of purposes" と
あるので、「ヘッダ保護」以外の目的も考えているのだと思います。

Yes, except that the protection extends to the envelope when you use BSMTP.
If all you want to protect is the header it is easier to just use a
message/rfc822 MIME encapsulation.
