Maybe one could introduce a `guess' config value in summary mode which
would enable this feature ?  Provided one can set in ~/.emacs the
default config value to use, on would have that way the better of both
worlds.  Better still, it would be very nice is to be able to
automatically set the default config value according to the current
folder.  I.e., one would set an alist like

(setq mew-config-folder-alist
      '(("inbox"         . "guess")
        ("mew"           . "mew")
	("Debian/users?" . "deb"))
      )

(one should be able to specify regexps for the folders) to enable that.
