思いっきりYESですね。
今回のthreading は .mew-cache の各行の文字列に対して、インデント用の
空白を入れるregexp で調べ、必要な量の空白を入れることで実現しています。
## だから速いし、メッセージのいろいろな情報をを持たないですんでいる

ちなみに上記の第3のパターンであれば、mew-regex-thread-indent を
(setq mew-regex-thread-indent (concat mew-regex-msg "..[0-9/]+"))
なんてしておけばいいんじゃないでしょうか。(See mew-summary-thread-reagion)

加藤さんの案だと、From: 名のパターンを指定できないので、つらい。

てとしては、form の指定で From: を[....] で囲むなど、細工をして、
(setq mew-regex-thread-indent (concat mew-regex-msg "..[0-9/]+.*\\]"))
などとするのも手かも知れません。
