Thanks for the reply. I fiddle with it some more, and
find out the following:

I set those varibles through the curstomize group
interface, when I say "save for future sessions", the
customized varibles will be written to my .emacs file,
however with a sorted order in customized variable
section, and there, '(mew-use-biff t) comes in front
of '(mew-use-cached-passwd t). Somehow, this order
will not get the biff timer going. (When i check
timer-list, the mew-pop-biff timer is not shown at
all).

Change the order of mew-use-cached-passwd and
mew-use-biff seems to work.

I hope I am wrong, but if the above observation is
correct, shouldn't this be fixed? (Since a lot of
newbies are going to customize interface instead of
manually write (setq ...).

Anyway, I am now happily running Mew! Thanks again for
this wonderful tool and support, I think it handles
MIME, mule stuff better than any other MUA in Emacs.
