I don't know what "automatic message popping" refers to. If it means
Biff, I guess mew-pop-biff-interval is too short. You should
understand that your POP server locks your maildrop everytime you gain
access to.

How about set mew-prog-application/msword to your favorite program
and type C-cC-e?
