Yes.  I understand that.  However, the processes are gone from the
process list (from list-process) on the emacs side, they remain on the
other side of the connection.

I agree that this is how things should work, but it isn't what I'm
seeing.  I've also exited emacs completely, and the processes remain
on the remote do-da system.

I'd expect to see the processes on the remote site only while the mail
is being sent, or while I'm downloading the messages via pop.

I'll double check to make sure that the this might not be the "fault"
of the sshd that I'm running on the remote system.
