It appears that incm trying to open /dev/null in my case as well.
Here's a part of my strace:

stat("/var/spool/mail/petter", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600, st_size=796, ...}) = 0
open("/dev/null", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|0x10000) = -1 ENOTDIR (Not a directory)
open("/mnt/home/petter/Mail/inbox", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|0x18000) = 3
