The Mew manual, section "spam" (`M-x info RET d m Mew RET g spam RET'),
suggests using a POP proxy server, such as bsfilter
(http://www.bsfilter.org/index-e.html).
The mew-pop-proxy-server variable is for using a POP proxy
server. If mew-pop-proxy-server is set, Mew connects to
mew-pop-proxy-server, and manages a cache as mew-pop-server.
See also mew-pop-proxy-port and mew-pop-port.
(I don't normally use bsfilter. I'm using spamassassin and
procmail on my POP server.)
