I have confirmed that authentication of pop-user containing "@"
works nicely on my local POP server (Solid POP3 Server, Debian
GNU/Linux sid i386 (very recent)) with Mew 4.2rc2, as follows:

-----
<GREETING>
+OK Solid POP3 server ready <4351.1107085790 at example.com>

<=SEND=>
CAPA

<CAPA>
-ERR unknown command

<=SEND=>
USER tats at example.com

<USER>
+OK username accepted

<=SEND=>
PASS XXXXXXXX

<PASS>
+OK authentication successful
-----

To see the log of POP communication, set the mew-debug variable
to 'net (or t), run POP process with Mew, and go to "*Mew debug*"
buffer.  See also `http://www.mew.org/bugreport/index.html.en'.
