Well, the value of `mew-field-spec' is correct, but this variable is
somehow ignored.  In the meantime I discovered that this error doesn't
happen with a clean invocation of Emacs ("emacs -q")

I guess my hairy setup is messing up a bit.  

Any idea of what could make mew ignore the value of `mew-field-spec'?
