[mew-int 3054] stunnel4 vs. mew 6.4

hi!

After a recent upgrade on wheezy (= debian testing) mew started to behave in a very funny way:

POP3/SMTP connection with SSL to the mailserver works only every second time!

I hit "i" and it locks up at "Creating an SSL/TLS connection...". Then I hit "C-g" and "C-cC-k" to unlock the buffer. Then I hit "i" and it works perfectly, but it locks up the next time I try the same key, etc.

I think this happened a few years ago, but I couldn't find in the mail archive or the mew.org website any relevant information.

Versions on my machine:

# ssh -V →
OpenSSH_5.9p1 Debian-4, OpenSSL 1.0.1 14 Mar 2012

#dpkg -l|grep stunn →
ii stunnel4 3:4.52-1

mew-version-show →
Mew version 6.4

emacs-version →
GNU Emacs 23.4.1 (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu) of 2012-03-21 on trouble, modified by Debian

Is there a way to debug this very unusual behaviour?

i tried "M-x mew-debug" but there is no such a command, i think this worked before. "M-x set-variable → mew-debug" is also not working. strange.
