Ok, it worked.  Thank you!  To be complete, I must say that the patch
didn't apply cleanly, I got the message:

Hunk #1 FAILED at 5.
1 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to mew-virtual-thread.el.rej

I join the file as an attachment -- but I think this is no big deal,
it only affects the head of the file.

Another thing it would be nice to do is: when the threaded buffer is
created, could the marks of the original buffer be transfered to the
threaded one?

Maybe also, a useful thing to add woukd be to delete (or more
generally mark/unmark) an entire thread at once (with e.g., C-u d,
...).

Thanks for that addon t Mew -- with more than 150 messages a day, I
use it alot !
