言葉の問題なので、ちょっとだけ。"Retrieve"というのはRFC1939にしたがっ
て、この動作がRETRというコマンドがらみだからそうしたのだと推測します。
しかし、retrieve mailとして使われるのは1回だけです。そこで、この
RFC1939 にreceiveがどのくらいでてくるかというと、コマンドでなくmessage
をreceive するという意味でつかわれているのが2ないし3箇所のようです。し
かし、この動作は、このRFCでは、コマンドの名前がRETRであるにもかかわら
ず、"download"と表現されることが多いようです。

   84:   mail on the server; normally, mail is downloaded and then deleted.  A
  818:      downloaded once from the server, and are deleted after this has
  822:      client which was ended by a QUIT, delete all messages downloaded
  827:      Servers implementing a download-and-delete policy may also wish to
  829:      as an alternate mechanism to download entire messages.

というわけで、非専門家としては、普通の英語をユーザインターフェイスで使
うのがよいならば、downloadが自然なのかとも思います。

あと、

    mew-scan.el:449:  "Retrieve the entire of a truncated('T') message.

というのなどがあるそうですが、entireは形容詞なのでこうは使えず、

                      "Retrieve the rest of a truncated('T') message.
                      "Retrieve the whole message which has been trancated.

となるような気もします。
