[mew-int 01177] new newsgroup 'catchup'

Whenever I join a new newsgroup, my initial 'update' of the group
fetches all messages (sometimes thousands).  Afterwards, the update
gets only new messages.  Is there a way to catchup a newsgroup so that
my initial updates don't download all stored messages for that
newsgroup.  I realize that 'last:<num>' will get the last num
messages, but I would like to retrieve all messages since the last one
I read.
