OK. We have correlation, since I am running Emacs 21.1 (Debian emacs21
21.1-7). Sorry that I forgot to mention that detail, most sloppy of me.

Right. It seems event driven. Have somebody messed with some
event-loop or something? Something in Emacs perhapps?
(I confess, I haven't dug into Emacs internals, I just use it since 9
years back.)

In the meanwhile, I know how to handle the situation at least. It was
a bit annoying when I didn't know how to do it.
