This would also be fine. (But this will only work for one folder,
see note at the end of this mail.)

Not exactly. The closest I can achieve is:
2538:
3077:
4007:
4281:
i.e. without the matching line. This will cause mew to run for ever
showing "Picking messages in ..."

And, I often search several folders at the same time so that
the output above will contain a (abs. or rel.) path and not just a filename.
