Hello,

I am a new Mew user and got a problem while configuring it.

I currently use emacs 21.2 under Solaris (Sun station) but the
problem also arises using emacs 21.3.

I configured Mew in order to allow Latin-1 coding.

(set-language-environment "Latin-1") :

(require 'ucs-tables)
(unify-8859-on-encoding-mode 1)
(unify-8859-on-decoding-mode 1)

(setq mew-charset-latin "iso-8859-1")

When I compose a mail containing letters with accents (é, è, à etc.),
I get the following message :

----------------------------------------------------
These default coding systems were tried:
  ctext-unix iso-latin-1
However, none of them safely encodes the target text.

Select one of the following safe coding systems:
  utf-8 raw-text emacs-mule no-conversion
----------------------------------------------------

That seems strange : iso-latin-1 does meet the case in this
example. Moreover, when agreing for utf-8, I notice that in fact the
charset has been set to iso-2022-jp-2.

Would anybody have an idea of what happens here ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Regards.

--Guy Durrieu.
