[mew-int 2362] Can and if so how Mew read from and write to local Maildir

I use Gnus for news and mail for long time. And I consider to use
another package for mail and Gnus for news only. I am looking into Mew
and VM, and I want to ask for opinions and suggestions here.

My use case:

I have several emails (some for work use, and some personal) and most of
them (except one gmail account) can be accessible through IMAP.
I use offlineimap to sync between server and local Maildirs for all my
IMAP-capable email accounts. So in my local computer(s), I have dirs
like:

~/Maildir/one at example.com (/INBOX->cur,new,tmp as subdir tree)
~/Maildir/two at example.com

etc, one for each account.

With Gnus nnmaildir backend, it works well. But one mis-feature or
non-feature of Gnus bothered me for long time. Each address has its SMTP
server, and it's not easy job to set up Gnus to choose SMTP according to
"From" header. Though with Gnus parameters, Posting Style and msmtp it's
possible and in fact I got it work. But it's too easy to shoot myself at
the foot. And yesterday I found I can not get msmtp to work in this
scheme.

My aim is to set up offline use of mail(and news) entirely since at home my
connection is charged by connection time.

So my questions are:

1. Can Mew deal with Maildir (local)?

2. If yes, how to set up?

3. If yes, when I send a message, esp. a reply, can I store the send message in the
same account Maildir just like what (gcc-self.t) does in Gnus.

I read Mew info manual and can not find answers.

If Mew can not do this, anyone can suggest another package (sure not
Gnus)?

Thanks,

CHENG Gao
