No, Mew doesn't support Maildir directly.  For Mew, you should
retrieve mails to MH-style folders or install local IMAP server.

If you'd like to handle Maildir directly, I recommend Wanderlust as
an alternative package.

Note that the stable release of Wanderlust version 2.14.0 seems to
be buggy, so I recommend the CVS development version 2.15.x or
patched version of 2.14.0 from Debian.

P.S.

I'm a user of both Mew and Wanderlust.  Though I mostly use Mew to
handle mails, I use Wanderlust for NNTP, MHC, shimbun, etc.
